LTMMSL believes that a collaborative surrounding leads to growth and sustainable world. Future generations have to be nurtured to imbibe these values by providing them a thriving environment. School is a best place where LTMMSL can support the future of India, taking steps in collaboration with the State Government for “Strengthening India together”.
Adi Dravidar Welfare (ADW) Dept., Govt. of Tamil Nadu, takes up and implements various welfare measures towards improving the standards of life of socially disadvantaged tribal communities. These, inter alia, include running hostel facilities at district level for tribal students who are unable to pursue education owing to non-availability of upper primary schools close to their hamlets.
In Coimbatore, within city limits, there are separate hostels functioning for boys and girls. However, the Govt. ADW Boys’ Hostel at Singanallur, with a capacity to accommodate 90 students, was declared unfit for occupation and demolished in the financial year 2023-24. Since then, the hostel is being run from a rented premises with a limited strength of just 15 students.
In January, 2024, the District Collector had convened a meeting of NGOs and company representatives for redevelopment, renovation and repair of Backward and ADW welfare hostels. The District Revenue Officer made a specific request to consider redevelopment of the Govt. ADW Boys’ Hostel at Singanallur while handing over the letter of appreciation for the uniquely designed infrastructure facilities created in previous years through LTMMSL’s CSR initiatives.
Out of nine projects proposed, LTMMSL decided to redevelop Govt. ADW Boys’ Hostel out of the CSR budget of up to ₹139 lakhs for FY25. In a meeting held with the District Collector, the ADW Dept. it was advised to immediately clear the debris from the 38-cent plot and extend all required support for redevelopment to LTMMSL. The mandatory Technical Clearance from the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidar Housing And Development Corporation Limited (TAHDCO) was received on August 5, 2024. The redevelopment work began during the third week of August 2024 and the project was handed over in early March 2025.
Spread over a 443 SQ Meters built-up area, the Hostel is uniquely designed, ready-to-occupy, redeveloped G+1 facility boasts of nine dorm rooms, a dining-cum-study area with a water purifier of adequate capacity, a warden’s room, an office, a large kitchen, a store room, hand wash area and a toilet block each on either floor. Recreational facilities are provided such as badminton-cum-volleyball court, a single-pole basketball dribbling court, outdoor gym equipment, an amphitheater central space and a park with six benches.
The hostel facility was formally handed over to the District Collector in the presence of the Secretary to Govt. and the Director, Adi Dravidar Welfare Dept. on March 12, 2025. Appreciating the CSR support to the ADW Dept., both the Secretary and the Director expressed that the facility is one of its kind in the entire state. The Collector assured that necessary support will be extended to sustain the facility and to ensure its optimum utilisation for the benefit of underprivileged students within the district.
In April 2023, L&T MBDA Missile Systems (LTMMSL) identified two projects as part of its CSR initiative for FY24, with the support of the Coimbatore District Administration and Corporation.
Rathinapuri is a densely populated area in the central part of the city of Coimbatore. Overstretched, with a visible lack of maintenance of civic infrastructure, this area is home to over 45,000 people. A cluster of six Integrated Child Development Services Centres (ICDS Complex or Anganwadi Centres) cater to the cognitive, social, emotional and physical development needs of the children of this locality during their formative years. Before redevelopment, this Decades old ICDS Complex comprised of four dilapidated structures with two of them serving as classrooms and kitchens. Water logging was a regular phenomenon during the monsoon season. Without any proper up-keep & maintenance, its condition was a deterrent for parents to send their wards to the Centres. Those who attended regularly were susceptible to frequent ailments from the prevailing poor hygienic conditions.
The second project, a Health Sub Centre at Chinniyampalayam, serving four hamlets with a population of over 16,000, was being operated from a dilapidated structure. The Department was unable to deliver basic health services owing to the limitation of the infrastructure.
LTMMSL persuaded the State Government to allow the design and redevelopment of building infrastructure of both the ICDS Complex and Health Sub Centre differently from their standard approved designs. This proposal was a one-of-its kind redevelopment of infrastructure, with a design which could potentially act as a model for future developments by State Governments. The necessary approvals from the Coimbatore Corporation for the ICDS Complex and from the Health Deptartment for the Health Sub Centre were obtained and the construction began in September, 2023.
The redeveloped ICDS Complex boasts of a central podium with a large assembly area, spacious classrooms with extensive artworks along with furniture, a kitchen block, a toilet block for kids and teachers, clean drinking water facility, fire safety equipment, an office room for record keeping and play equipment.
The Health Sub Centre consists of a patient waiting area, a doctor’s room, a nurse station, a 3-bed capacity ward and a private patient room on the ground floor with an open terrace for yoga practice and staff nurse quarters on the first floor.
The redeveloped ICDS Complex and Health Sub Centre, which were handed over to the District Administration on February 29, 2024, will bring a much-needed improvement in education and health infrastructure to the area.
In April, 2022, L&T MBDA Missile Systems Limited (LTMMSL), operating from a SEZ in Coimbatore, engaged with a local NGO to conduct a Participatory Rural Appraisal in Vinobha Nagar within Kittampalayam Village. This exercise brought out the inadequacy of basic infrastructure in the Panchayat Union Primary School as the primary need of Vinobha Nagar residents. The school, with over 60 students studying from Std. I to Std. V, was functioning from a single-room building due to lack of infrastructure. The school also lacked sanitation facilities and a set up for effectively implementing the Noon Meal Scheme of the Govt.
LTMMSL, as part of its CSR initiative for 2022-23, extended support to this Govt. School to make the School more student-friendly and to contribute to their holistic development. Necessary permissions from local bodies were obtained and the project execution began in Sept. 2022.
On March 3, 2023, the extended & renovated School was handed over by Mr. Ravi P Kataria, Chief Executive, LTMMSL, to the Chairman of Sulur Block and the Kittampalayam Panchayat President. The Sulur Block Development Officer, other elected representatives and Vinobha Nagar residents in large number attended the school handover ceremony, which was followed by a cultural programme.
LTMMSL undertook the following activities to improve the infrastructure at the school:
