Vaishali Koparkar
Director
Ms. Vaishali Koparkar is General Manager and Head - Finance & Accounts, of L&T’s Defence Business. She is a qualified Chartered Accountant and an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI) since 1988. She has also successfully completed the Chartered Management Accountant course from the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), London, UK.
Ms. Koparkar has nearly three decades of rich post-qualification experience in the field of financial reporting, accounting, performance planning, strategic decision support, commercial finance, internal audit and implementation of ERP systems. She joined L&T in 2006 after a notable career stint in IBP Co. Ltd, an erstwhile subsidiary of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, India’s largest integrated energy major.
Before taking over as Finance & Accounts Head of L&T’s Defence business from August 2017, Ms Koparkar was in charge of L&T’s Group Financial and Performance reporting, comprising over 150 group companies. Her responsibilities also included accounting of L&T’s assets, loans & treasury transactions at corporate level, and formulation of L&T Group accounting policies and guidelines. She successfully spearheaded the L&T Group’s transition to Ind AS (India’s new accounting and financial reporting regime based on international financial reporting standards). Some of the major initiatives led by Ms. Koparkar include transitioning L&T from standalone to group quarterly reporting, establishing group MIS and Budgeting systems, implementing hedge accounting in the L&T Group, and digitalization of the financial reporting process.
As the head of Finance & Accounts of L&T Defence, Ms. Koparkar is responsible for financial reporting, accounting, statutory compliances and audit, MIS & budgeting, banking, working capital management, risk management and providing functional support & advisory for strategic decision-making, JV arrangements and business partnerships. She has also been entrusted with the responsibility of the Board Secretariat to the Defence IC Board.
Ms. Koparkar is the Member of SEBI Group on IFRS Exposure Drafts and has served as a member on the Accounting Standards Board of ICAI. She is a regular speaker and invitee in various financial reporting forums organised by ICAI and regulators.
